The Results Are In: Outback ‘Ohana Cup 2017 Final Scores

The exhilarating 2017 Outback ‘Ohana Cup featuring international and local rugby league teams wrapped up Friday at the new Kaiser Cougar Stadium at Henry J. Kaiser High School in Hawaii Kai.

Game 1: Ponsonby Ponies 30 - Hawaii Warriors 6
Game 2: Hawaii Koa 42 - Canada Travellers 20
Game 3: Ipswich Jets 30 - Tweed Head Seagulls 30

The Ipswich Jets tied with the Tweed Head Seagulls in the headline game of the evening.  The Kaiser High School band performed national anthems from the represented countries, as well as Hawaii‘i Pono‘i, to honor the Aloha State.

Players on both Australian Rugby League teams are elite athletes, considered rock stars of the sport in their home down under, and were flown to Hawaii not only to enjoy sun and surf, but to engage in rugby battle for team pride and to show the Hawaii audience what rugby league is all about.

In the 6 p.m. game, Hawaii Koa defeated the Canada Travellers in an exciting game that also featured the Kaiser High School cheerleaders in their first performance before fans in their brand new stadium facility this academic year.
Outback ‘Ohana Cup kicked off in late afternoon with a victory for the New Zealand Ponsonby Ponies over our local Hawaii Warriors in the preliminary match. The first game gave fans in the stands a prime taste of the rugby league action that was yet to come.

A donation by Outback ‘Ohana Cup to Henry J. Kaiser High School will support extracurricular student activities from athletics and band, to ROTC.

The games were followed Friday night with the official awards banquet at Outback Steak House in Hawaii Kai. Over the weekend, fans had another opportunity to meet and have fun with the players.  The 2017 Outback ‘Ohana Cup after party began at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Rumors nightclub in the Ala Moana Hotel by Mantra, official hotel of the games.
